A Quieter Needlepoint Month Before Market Season

March was a quieter month in my needlepoint notes, but not an empty one. With Needlepoint Market coming in April, it felt like some designers and shops were either preparing behind the scenes or slowly rolling out spring pieces. So this month’s recap is more of a curated catch-up: a few industry notes, spring canvas inspiration, finishing resources, and links worth saving before the next wave of needlepoint news arrives.

March Needlepoint Notes

Needlepoint Market Was on the Horizon

April’s Needlepoint Market may be one reason March felt a little quieter. When a big trade event is coming up, some new designs and shop-orderable releases may be held for market season. For regular stitchers, that means March can feel calm — and then April brings a wave of “ask your local needlework shop” previews.

Spring Canvases Started Blooming

Even without a long list of news bites, March brought plenty of spring needlepoint energy: greens, florals, lighter colors, fresh starts, and seasonal canvases. I’ve been collecting those finds in my spring canvas roundup.

Threadlines Arrived in Shops

One item worth noting: Threadlines, the new needlepoint magazine, made its physical debut in needlework shops. If you’re curious, check with your local needlework shop to see whether they’re carrying it or can help you find a copy.

Supply Chatter Continued

I also continued seeing discussion around needlepoint supply issues, especially Zweigart canvas and stretcher bars. This is one of those behind-the-scenes topics that may not feel exciting, but it can affect what shops can stock, how quickly canvases can be kitted, and what stitchers are able to find.

Still Worth Noting From February

A few late-February items were still worth saving here, especially if you missed them the first time around.

  • Lycette Designs launched the artwork from Paige Spearin as needlepoint canvases. These were hugely popular and many sold out already, but Lycette Designs said they will be restocking their website
  • Vogue spotlights needlepoint’s renaissance (features Penny Linn) — worth a read
  • Saturnalia Stitches is offering a new, virtual needlepoint class Selecting Stitches and more via their website – more details are in their Instagram post
  • Bexar Needleworks created a custom, needlepoint-specific set of Mahjong tiles: Stitch and Stack Mah Jong NDLPTiles available through their website
  • South Carolina stitchy retreat Needlepoint Palooza has a new venue for 2027 which will allow for more attendees and will eliminate the need for a lottery – sign up for details on their website
