A recent YouTube video from Michelle of Romantic Tangle, “WHAT is Happening with Dimensions Cross Stitch Kits?”, raised the same question many stitchers have been asking lately. In the video, the creator relays information she said came from someone working at Dimensions, which is what brought this topic onto my radar.
Company stories like this can get surprisingly hard to piece together later. News gets scattered across trade coverage, corporate filings, and bankruptcy updates, while stitchers are often left remembering only that “something happened.” This post is my attempt to pull the basic 2025 timeline into one place for future reference.
Why stitchers started asking questions
The community conversation did not come out of nowhere. Romantic Tangle’s video reflects a broader feeling many stitchers have had as familiar kits became less visible and questions started circulating about what was happening behind the scenes. I think that community angle matters, even when the business facts ultimately come from other sources, because it explains why so many people started looking for answers in the first place.
The ownership change in 2025
The clearest starting point in the paper trail is May 30, 2025. On that date, IG Design Group plc announced that it had agreed to sell its entire interest in Design Group Americas to HUK 168 Limited, a special purpose vehicle described as part of the Hilco Capital group. The filing explains that the deal involved a nominal upfront payment and a share of future sale or realization proceeds.
A little over a month later, Design Group Americas filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 3, 2025. Craft Industry Alliance reported that the filing came just over a month after the Hilco acquisition and described the situation as a mix of declining sales, tariff uncertainty, and bankruptcies among key retail customers, including Joann and Party City. You can look at this PDF press release for more (if it’s still up) Disposal of DG Americas.
Where Dimensions ended up (so far)
The most important detail for Dimensions fans is that the brand was specifically named in the September 2025 sale announcement from Design Group Americas. In that announcement, the company said the bankruptcy court had approved multiple transactions across several business segments. Among them was a sale to Advantus Corp. of assets in the Play and Sewing segments, including Boye, Dimensions, and Paintworks.
That gives a clearer answer than the vague sense that “something happened” to Dimensions. The record shows that Dimensions was part of the Design Group Americas restructuring and was listed among the assets approved for sale to Advantus Corp. in September 2025.
A simple 2025 timeline
For quick reference, here is the sequence at a glance:
- May 30, 2025: IG Design Group plc announced the sale of Design Group Americas to a Hilco Capital-linked buyer.
- July 3, 2025: Design Group Americas filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
- September 18, 2025: court-approved sale transactions were announced, including the sale of Dimensions to Advantus Corp.
A note on Dimensions’ current web presence
Important note: As of this writing, I was not able to find a clearly identified standalone official website for Dimensions. Some Dimensions-branded sites that appear in search describe themselves as Amazon affiliate sites rather than official company websites.
For example:
- dimensionscrossstitch.org states in its footer, “This website is not affiliated with DIMENSIONS brand.”
- dimensions-needlecrafts.com also states that it participates in the Amazon Associates program.
Posting for posterity
For longtime fans of Dimensions, this post may become more useful with time. If the brand becomes harder to find, if certain kits quietly disappear, or if replacement threads and other support materials become more difficult to access, it helps to have the 2025 ownership timeline in one place. Company changes do not always feel important right away, but they can shape what stitchers are able to buy, replace, and find support for later on.
That is really the reason for this post. Not to dramatize the situation, and not to add to confusion, but to leave behind a clear reference point for Dimensions fans if they need it in the years ahead. When a familiar brand goes through a sale, a bankruptcy process, and a transfer to new ownership, the details can scatter quickly. I wanted there to be at least one simple place where the basic timeline is easy to find.
