Cross stitch stitch-a-longs or SALs are a fun way to be a part of community stitching especially since it is such an individual-centered hobby. Most SALs are hosted by the designers themselves and are often a mystery as to what the design will be though the designer will share what theme the pattern revolves around.
Typically you pay up front, and the designer releases weekly parts of the design via instant download. SALs can take from a couple of months to a year to be fully released. It depends on the size of the pattern, seasonal theme, or perhaps its for a fundraiser.
Most SALs require payment for the pattern and some options for purchasing supplies. Designers will sell pattern PDFs through Etsy or their own website if they have one and are released via email.
Some SALs will be free so you can stitch something from your stash or whatever you wish. Free SALs are typically hosted on Facebook or Instagram groups.
