In Memoriam: Sage of Night Spirit Studio

With sorrow and gratitude we remember Sage Spirit of Night Spirit Studio, who passed on October 22 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. For more than two decades Sage filled the cross-stitch world with gothic beauty—Victorian mourning samplers, occult motifs, skeletons, frogs in mourning—each pattern a whisper of myth, history and craft. Her designs invited us to embrace the shadows, to find elegance and heart in what others might shy away from. Her passing leaves a quiet in our community, but her work continues to inspire and be stitched and loved. May her threads ever glide through the fabric of our memories.

Sage Spirit was a remarkable artist and visionary who carved out a unique niche in the cross-stitch world. Through her brand Night Spirit Studio, she offered designs steeped in the macabre, the mythic, and the mysterious: Victorian mourning, skulls, cryptids, occult symbolism, tarot inspirations.

Her style fused gothic elegance, folkloric echoes, and a deep sense of craft. As her Etsy shop describes: “a place where the dark threads of history and myth intertwine to stitch life into Gothic and Victorian symbolism, occult rituals, the paranormal and more.”

Sage’s partner, Ash, shared the sad news of her passing to her fans and followers on social media. See the embedded Instagram post below.

Ash said that Sage’s designs will still be available.
