Often described as embroidery, punch needle art may closer to other fiber arts like rug hooking or latch hook rugs. Punch needle looks similar in style to those other two, but it uses a needle not a hook. The needle is hollow and the thread ‘punches’ through the fabric. The fiber is not actually ‘stitched’ in and relies on the fabric to hold it in place once released from the frame. Embroidery or not, punch needle is beautiful, relatively easy, and in recent years has become quite popular.
