German B2B tradeshow h+h Cologne is coming to America in 2022. The event will take place every June in Chicago and seeks to unite those making a living in fiber art.
In a recent press release, Koelnmesse announced they are bringing h+h, a soft-crafts tradeshow brand, to the United States which will be known as h+h americas. It’s big sister is h+h cologne of Cologne, Germany is a long-running annual event with main segments in home textiles, tapestry, sewing, knitting, crocheting, haberdashery, quilting, and needlepoint. h+h americas will take place every June in the Chicagoland area. The first event is already set for the weekend of June 22, 2022.
Why now? “‘…The Covid situation has accelerated the demand for soft craft products in North America and we feel that now is the right time to bring the well-known h+h brand to the U.S.”, says Mette Petersen, President and Managing Director of Koelnmesse Inc.'” The press release also states that due to lockdowns soft craft hobbies in the US have led to double-digit growth rates.
Koelnmesse has partnered with Craft Industry Alliance to be a local producer of the show. CIA was founded by Abby Glassenberg and Kristin Link to have a place for members in the craft industry to network, learn, and be inspired as professionals. Subsequently, Abby reported last year on The National NeedleArts Association suspending operations. TNNA was a trade organization that represented the specialty needlework market.
Who is this tradeshow for? From the press release: “Visitors will be Soft Craft Retailers, Wholesalers, Designers and the Online Trade who can also access the show virtually.” From the h+h americas website: “The fair is open to anyone who makes a living in fiber arts, no matter what background or industry sector.”
