Plastic Canvas in Long Stitch

Plastic canvas is a form of needlepoint, but the plastic mesh makes it a good tool for learning stitches since you don’t have to worry about the cotton canvas warping. The long stitch is a good one to know because it can also be used in needlepoint as well as hand embroidery, however it is more commonly known as the gobelin in needlepoint or the satin stitch in embroidery – to my knowledge anyway.

Not only is the canvas easy to work with, the long stitch is quick and simple. While it’s good for beginners, it is also great for those who want a quick project but still produce a wonderful design.

Lovely Seasons in Long-Stitch designed by Conn Baker Gibney include: Spring in the Cottage Garden, Summer at the Sea Shore, Autumn by Millstream, and Winter at the Snow-Covered Bridge. These landscapes are worked in 10 mesh plastic canvas using worsted weight yarn with accents of embroidery floss. Cover the edges of each portrait with overcast stitches or place it in a standard 8”x10” frame.
